TEACHER’S ASSISTANT
Position Summary:
The primary focus of this position will be to assist the STEM Instructor in teaching Snapology after-school classes. Teacher’s Assistants are asked to promote creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts. Programs are conducted for students in grades K – 8, although not all instructors are required to teach all grades. This role requires representing the Snapology organization to parents & children with a high degree of professionalism.
Role & Responsibilities:
· Assist with groups of up to 20 students through curriculum-guided activities;
· Assist the Instructor in instructing and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment;
· Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures;
· Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology;
· Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies;
· Watching training videos and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions;
· Handle inquiries regarding Snapology programs;
· Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs;
· Participate in periodic Snapology training & staff meetings as required
Qualifications:
· Must be able to pass a criminal background check;
· 1 or more years of experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment;
· 11th or 12th grade high school student with 3.0 GPA or higher;
· Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
· Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
Programs Available to Teach (after-school is primary, others are optional):
· After-school and/or evening Classes (September – May)
o 1-2 hours in length and occur between 2:30 – 5:00pm Monday-Friday
· Weekend Workshops
o 2-4 hours in length and occur on Friday, Saturday or Sunday
· Other Camps & Workshops (Holiday Break, Spring Break, In-Service Days)
o 3-8 hours in length and occur between 8am – 5pm Monday-Friday
· Birthday Parties
o 1-2 hours in length and occur on Friday, Saturday or Sunday
· Summer Camps (June – August)
o 4-8 hours in length and occur between 8am – 5pm Monday-Friday
